May 7: Be Sweet to Teachers this National Teachers Day with Great Dessert Recipes

The work of a teacher is often overlooked but these cakes and desserts will show your appreciation! While National Teachers Day has only been nationally recognized since 1980, Eleanor Roosevelt first advocated for a National Teacher Day in 1953.  In 1980, Congress designated March 7 as National Teachers Day for one year. The National Education Association designated the first Tuesday of the first full week of May as the day to show appreciation for teachers.

These cakes and sweets make great gifts while on their own or in a basket with other gifts. Present a whole cake for the teacher with the big sweet tooth or make more portable desserts for the one who prefers treats in snack-sized portions. The impacts of teachers are apparent since before written history and this day, you can use your best baking skills to share a sweet Thank You.
