August 2: Embrace the Power of Love and Chinese Flavorings this Qixi Festival!
A 2,000 year old holiday offers inspiration for Chinese-style family dinner recipes! Qixi Festival arises from the legend of the unapproved love affair between the cow herder, Niuland, and Zhino, the weaver of clouds and daughter of the Jade Emperor. After getting married behind their parents' backs, the queen, Zhino's mother, banished the two from one another with the Milky Way separating them. Later the queen took pity and allowed them one night a year together. A bridge of magpies allows Zhino to cross the Milky Way and into her lover's arms.
Today, this is a holiday important to young women. Couples commemorate their love on this day in addition to February 14. Whether you wish to compile a romantic dinner for your spouse or experiment with a cuisine known for its flavors and food styling loved by Dishfolio food photographers, this is a great opportunity for new Chinese cuisine!
