Believe it or not, the meatball is one of the most universal dishes in the world, enjoyed in different ways from countries ranging from Afghanistan, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, the United States and more. Just like its name suggests, the meatball is made of ground or minced meat rolled into a small ball. Depending on which side of the world you're in, it could come mixed with breadcrumbs, cheese, eggs, various herbs and spices and can be eat on top of your spaghetti, in your noodle soup or in a tasty sandwich!
No matter where you are in the world, you'll probably find its own version of meatballs. South Asian and Middle Eastern meatballs come in the form of Kofta, usually made from beef or lamb. Hungary has popular liver dumplings called májgombóc, usually mixed in soups. Swedish meatballs or köttbullar are made either beef, pork or veal and traditionally served with a mix of gravy and lingonberry jam.
