September 13: Find the Magic in Welsh Recipes on Roald Dahl Day!
To date, the Roald Dahl collection of children's fiction has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide. With sales figures like those, it's hardly surprising that the British author has had a day designated in his memory. Despite his Norwegian ancestry, Roald Dahl himself was born in Llandaff, Wales, so Dishfolio think some Welsh cuisine is in demand on the day of his celebration.
Dahl was born way back in 1916, but Welsh rarebit, a dish synonymous with Wales, far predates him, with literary sources tracing its usage back as far as 1725.
While many historical sources identify the Welsh with a love of cheese, it's not known whether Welsh rarebit began its life as a dish in Wales. In any cases, it uses a number of quintessentially British ingredients, including cheddar cheese, Welsh butter, Worcestershire sauce and English mustard.
British food suppliers will have all you need to make Welsh rarebit, but even across the pond you should face little difficulty in sourcing the ingredients to make this most basic of quick and easy dinner ideas come to life in no time!
