October 14: Celebrate Thanksgiving Day in Canada!
Thanksgiving in Canada can be traced back to the travels of Martin Fobisher in 1578, who travelled from England with the intention of settling in Canada. He and his fleet had an incredibly difficult journey and lost many men. When they finally arrived in Canada, a minister named Robert Wolfall gave a sermon of thanks to God.
Since then, Canadians have celebrated Thanksgiving with traditional Canadian family recipes. Their meal often consists of turkey, although roast beef and ham can be used instead. Sometimes, rice is served instead of potatoes. Pumpkins are also used regularly in this festival.
Did you know that the Canadian tradition of Thanksgiving is over 50 years older than its American counterpart? Here at Dishfolio, we love any excuse to get together with family and friends and enjoy a traditional feast, and if you're the same, then why not look up some family dinner recipes online?
