Homemade Ghee

I really loved watching making ghee at home: it was a long process, from milk to curd to butter by churning the cream from curd (because no electric gadgets were there then) to ghee. The cream which was taken out to be converted into Ghee would be churned with a hand held traditional wooden churner. At one point of constant churning the cream will separate into butter and water. The butter would be carefully removed from this and made into Ghee. And I would dare not try and describe in words, the aroma that used to waft through the corridors of the house during ghee-making!

All in one, Appam-Vellayappam- Vattayappam

Appam is a traditional Kerala breakfast, which is had with any side dish. They are the feather-light and super yum ‘Lacy Hoppers’ from Kerala (God`s own Country), and only recently I found it has got a cute sexy English name. In our house only for special occasions we used to buy chicken or beef and so it was always a festive delicacy. I grew up having lot of fish, now it’s the opposite of that. So for Christmas and Easter it was so special when mummy made appam with chicken stew & chicken cutlets. I still need that for my Christmas and Easter without which my celebration is not over. After coming to Germany I had no idea how to make appam without a small wok or skillet used to make appam and that which would work well on electric stoves, until one aunty told me she use normal small frying pan for that. It’s working perfectly well.
