May 28: Patience Pays Off on National Brisket Day
Brisket may be tough but with the right preparation, it is savory! Preparation requires time but the results are worth it. Consisting of the meat found in the breast section beneath five ribs, brisket is inexpensive with a tough reputation. With slow roasting and the right flavoring, this dish can exceed palatable and enter delicious.
This food holiday appears to arise from nowhere. However, making full use of beef cattle, even the below average cuts, is not a new development. Spanish settlers arrived with the first beef cattle and many brisket recipes. Techniques focus on tenderizing the meat. Spice rub is popular as is marinating the meat. Both methods require slow cooking over indirect heat using wood or charcoal. Certain woods, including pecan or mesquite, enhance flavor. Do not let the reputation of brisket as the cheapest cut of meat deter you-these recipes make your efforts worthwhile!
