October 15: Celebrate Korean Liberation Day with Korean Cuisine!
Liberation Day in North and South Korea celebrates the two countries' liberation from Japan in 1945. In Korean, the festival is known as Gwangbokjeol, from the word gwangbok which means "restoration of light".
Today, Liberation Day in Korea can be celebrated by people all over the world, by enjoying traditional Korean food. Although many ingredients are not widely available in mainstream grocery stores, you will be able to find specialist ingredients in a locally-owned Korean food market. Meals consist largely of rice served with fish or meat, and fermented vegetable dishes called kimchi.
Did you know that King Injong, a Korean monarch during the 12th century, was buried with chopsticks and a spoon? Here at Dishfolio, we were impressed by such dedication to food! Korean cuisine is often colorful and healthy, and makes great family food, so why not look up some quick and easy dinner ideas online?
