Blueberries are native to the United States, and the blueberry plant have been grown and harvested in America for hundreds of years. They grow both in the wild and on cultivated land, making them affordable for people across the country. They have long been used in cooking and baking, and in fact, the most popular muffin in America is the blueberry muffin.
Maine is the top state for "wild" or low bush blueberry production, meaning that farmers do not plant the blueberries but that they are maintained and cared for. Meanwhile, Michigan is the top state for planted, or high bush, blueberry production. However, blueberries are found all over the country.
