July 16: Get Creative With Corn on National Corn Fritters Day!
Who doesn't love corn fritters? Although very little information is available about the origin of corn fritters, although many people believe that they were created in the south of America. Some sources claim that corn fritters originated in Native American tribes, which could grow and harvest corn easily without the need for modern technology, using just the rainwater to water their crops.
Today, corn fritters are still associated with the American south, although they have spread throughout America and even to foreign countries and cultures, sometimes even coming in the form of frozen corn fritters. For example, many people believe that the Indian dish of "pakora", meat or vegetables coated in batter and then deep-fried, is based on corn fritters.
Interestingly, corn fritters can be used as both a sweet and a savory food. For example, they can be served with jam, honey or cream if you're looking for a sweet treat, but they can also be great side dishes to accompany family dinner recipes.
