Mystery surrounds the origins of the pecan pie. It is not known exactly when this dish came into being, although many claim it was being baked long before it first appeared in recipes in the 1890s. Others suggest that the first French settlers created the pecan pie in New Orleans.
While the pecan pie is traditionally thought of as a southern dish, it is popular throughout America. Pecan pies are enjoyed all over the world, and although the pecan pie is a popular dish, it is not as common as other American dessert ideas.
It is interesting that the Karo food company claims to be the inventor of the pecan pie. The company argues that they came up with the pecan pie in order to promote their corn syrup.
