August 10: Potato Recipes in Honor of Potato Feast Days Festival!
It is thought that potatoes originally grew in the Andes Mountains. People first began to grow potatoes in Peru and northwest Bolivia, and experts believe that this may have been as many as 10,000 years ago. The early potato varieties that were grown at this time were cultivated from a species called Solanum Brevicaule.
Today, there are around 5,000 different types of potato which are grown and enjoyed all over the world. Potatoes are often used to add starch and bulk to many traditional meals, especially in the Western world. For example, in the UK, roast potatoes are a staple ingredient of the traditional Sunday roast, and here at Dishfolio we can't get enough!
