February 17: Mardi Gras (fatty foods)

Enjoy a few last indulgences before Lent! Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, which is considered the last night of eating rich food before Lenten fasting. It is often accompanied by celebrations and religious rituals before the feast begins. Costumes, dancing, sports competitions, parades and, yes, debauchery, feature prominently in Mardi Gras celebrations all over the world.

Even if you skip out on the party, you can still transfer the indulgence into these family dinner recipes. For a New Orleans theme, try gumbo, red beans and rice, or King Cake. Breaded fried shrimp or even chicken strips with different spices will also work well. Do a small plate theme more reminiscent of the carnivals in Europe with quick appetizer recipes that are just as rich. Be as complex, creative, or as simple as you like with these great options discovered by Dishfolio food bloggers!
