October 21: Conquer Previous Food Perceptions on Battle of Trafalgar Day

Explore British culinary tradition on Battle of Trafalgar Day! This day celebrates the victory by the Royal Naval under the command of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson over French and Spanish forces at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.  It is presently commemorated in Birmingham with a parade to the statue of Lord Nelson where the mayor lays a wreath and salutes the statue.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about British cuisine which often receives an undeserved bad reputation. U.K. food approaches focus on local ingredients accented with various sauces. Family dinner recipes may include the tradition of meat and herb stewing as well as the spices of former British colonies.  Other popular options include the full British breakfast along with fish and chips which figure prominently in online food recipes. Take a look at these British combinations discovered by Dishfolio food bloggers and discover a new take on British food traditions!
