Celebrating motherhood dates back to humanity's beginnings, but Mother's Day was not a recognized holiday in the U.S. until the early 20th century. Anna Jarvis began her campaign for a Mother's Day holiday in 1905 in honor of her mother, Ann Jarvis. Ann Jarvis is known for nursing soldiers during the Civil War and establishing Mother's Day Work Clubs which addressed public health issues.
One day a year seems inadequate to address the contributions of mothers, but making this day special with good recipes is a great way to express gratitude. Whether the mother in your life is a society-wide contributor like Ann Jarvis or your favorite unknown heroine who kept you well, take some time to cook these Mother's Day dishes as a Thank You for the effort!
