April 8: Enjoy Curry on Buddha's Birthday
Prince Sidhartha Guatama also known as Buddha is the primary deity of our Buddhist brothers and we at Dishfolio celebrate with them the birthday of their leader. Usually celebrated on may 6th, April 8th is the date that the Japanese Buddhists celebrate his birthday with the alignment of the Gregorian calendar to the standard Chinese calendar.
In celebration of this holiday we feature amazing curry recipes which originated from Buddha's country of origin. Curry was first discovered by the British East India company while interacting with the locals. They introduced what they called Kari, a dish composed of meat or vegetables cooked with spices with our without gravy. Did you know that, the first curry recipe in English appeared in Hannah Glasse's The Art Of Cookery in 1747? It was introduced in the 19th century became very popular in Britain.
