June 10: Enjoy a Long Time Summer Favorite on National Black Cow Day
Have fun drinking a Black Cow today! Also known less colorfully as the Root Beer Float, the Black Cow is often associated with early rock and roll and poodle skirts. In fact, Black Cows were enjoyed as early as the late 1890's alongside the development of soda fountains. It is said that in August 1893, Cripple Creek Brewing owner, Frank Wisner, got the idea to combine ice cream and root beer while enjoying his view of Cow Mountain in Cripple Creek, Colorado.
Originally named Black Cow Mountain, the local children shortened the name to Black Cow.
The Black Cow uses root beer or cola and is extremely easy to make. Some prefer vanilla ice cream and others add extra richness with chocolate ice cream. No matter your soda or ice cream preference, there is a Black Cow recipe ready to enjoy! Check out these featured recipes from our Dishfolio food bloggers!Root Beer Float Rice Krispy Treats
