Take a night out of crime! National Night Out started in the U.S. in 1998 as a way to encourage neighborhood unity. Neighborhood watch groups discovered that hosting functions in communities deters crime and helps people connect so they feel more willing to look out for one another. It became a national phenomenon with many towns, neighborhoods, and communities hosting low-key events.
