September 25: Pancake Extravaganza on Pancake Lovers Day!
The consensus here at Dishfolio is that pancakes should be near the top of the list when it comes to good breakfast ideas. While we don't need an excuse to eat them, Pancake Lovers Day certainly provides one, and the budding food stylists out there will no doubt be in competition to compile the best-looking toppings for their hotcakes.
The history of pancakes takes us right back to the Ancient Greeks, whose word for pancakes, 'tagenias', roughly translates to 'frying pan'. Since the classical period they've been enjoyed in America, where they frequent many breakfast tables, and across Europe, where they are thinner in appearance because they're made without a raising agent.
Did you know that the French Emperor Napoleon is said to have loved pancakes, but ultimately attributed the failure of his campaign in Russia on one he dropped at Candlemas! Hopefully your pancake mixes won't be so ill-fated!
