October 4: Explore Filipino Cuisine on Filipino-American Heritage Month!
Filipinos have been migrating to North America for many hundreds of years, and the earliest record of Filipino-Americans dates back to the 1500s. Since then, Dishfolio can confirm that Filipino-Americans now make up one of the largest Asian-descent minority groups, behind only Chinese-Americans.
The large number of Filipino-Americans in the US means that American and Filipino dishes have influenced each other to create Filipino-American cuisine. For example, there is a chain of fast-food restaurants called Jollibee, which serves a range of Filipino-American cuisine, including noodle and rice dishes.
Did you know that the executive chef in the White House is a Filipino-American chef named Cristeta Comerford? Filipino food is wonderfully colorful and very exotic, and as a result it has long been the subject of beautiful food photography. If you're interested in trying some Filipino-American food yourself, there are lots of online food recipes for Filipino dishes available right here on Dishfolio.
