May 17: National Cherry Cobbler Day: Cherry-Inspired Desserty Goodness
We celebrate National Cherry Cobbler Day on May 17 each year. This is a perfect time because it is at this season that the freshest batches of the 370 million pounds of cherries grown each year start being sold by grocers in the United States and you can make your own cherry tart at home.
The rustic cherry cobblers find their origins in the American West where bakers evolved the regular pie into a cobbler as a simpler way to enjoy baked cherries. Cobbler is so delicious that it is often served as the main course in a meal.
