May 15: Wild and Wonderful Chocolate Chip Day Recipes
Ah, the chocolate chip. Whoever invented the chocolate chip deserves all the respect and recognition in the world. This widely-loved, teardrop-shaped treat is present in many delicious cookies, cakes, and breads. They are so versatile; you can use them in just about any recipe. They can form part of the pastry or they can be used as a decorating agent, you can even make a chocolate chip cookie birthday cake. And there are those of us who eat them alone as a snack.
It is hard to trace just exactly where National Chocolate Chip Day started but the invention of chocolate chips themselves can probably be traced back to the 1930s when they were created in Massachusetts by Ruth Graves Wakefield. As with any major food discoveries, it happened almost by accident but what a fortunate accident this was as today chocolate chips are used in a quarter of the cookies made in the United States. The best food photographers in the world have worked with chocolate chips.
It's no surprise, then, that there's a National Chocolate Chip Day every year on the 15th of May. Celebrate this food holiday by buying a huge pack of chocolate chips and creating a delicious batch of desserts that use this amazing ingredient! There are so many options in the market, you can get red and green chocolate chips or even bittersweet chocolate chips.
