July 13: Bon Appétit! It's National French Fries Day!
French fries are popular throughout the world, yet experts cannot seem to agree on their origin! They are traditionally thought to originate in Paris, where you can buy French fries from street vendors that sold fried chunks of potato. However, Belgian historians claim that the concept of French fries came from Namur at the end of the 17th century.
Whatever their origin, there is no denying that French fries are immensely popular. It is thought that the average American eats almost 30 pounds of French fries every year! With a great number of fast food chains acting like French fries machines and offering French fries as an accompaniment to their meals, it's no surprise that we just can't get enough!
Although French fries are traditionally purchased from fast food restaurants, it doesn't mean that you can't make your own at home! There are lots of quick and easy dinner ideas that mean you can serve your family some delicious, homemade fries.
