There's only eight days left before Christmas! This annual celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ is observed by billions of people around the world every December 25th. Although the holiday has Christian origins, more and more non-Christians are observing the event every year. Christmas traditions have long included exchanging gifts and sharing a Christmas meal on the eve of Christmas day.
One of the most well-known Christmas food is the traditional fruit cake. This delicious Christmas fruit cake is normally filled with chopped fruits and dried nuts and in some cases soaked in alcohol like rum. In fact, soaking it in spirits is a fantastic way of lengthening the shelf-life of fruit cake. Did you know that a family in Tecumseh, Michigan kept a fruit cake made with alcohol was kept as a family heirloom in 1878 and was then sampled by Jay Leno on The Tonight Show in 2003?
