August 22: More S'mores on National S'mores Day!
Here at Dishfolio, we love nothing better than celebrating a true American classic, and that's exactly what S'mores are! S'mores were invented in the first half of the 20th century. Some sources claim that Girl Scouts invented S'mores, while others suggest that an entrepreneur named Alec Barnum is responsible for their creation.
Today, S'mores are still highly popular all over America, and are traditionally eaten around a campfire, allowing people to roast their own marshmallows. Although S'mores haven't yet made it to other parts of the Western world, there are lots of ways to enjoy S'mores in the USA - you can even buy a S'mores candy bar!
Did you know that the first recorded S'mores recipe was seen in a publication called "Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts"? Because of the traditional, homely nature of S'mores, they are the center of lots of artistic food photography.
