September 29: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with Recipes from Hispanic Cultures!
Hispanic food is admired for its diversity, and what better time to sample as much of that variety as possible than during Hispanic Heritage Month?
Despite the array of foodstuffs on offer from Mexico to Argentina, Peru to Brazil, one thing that many Hispanic dishes have in common is that that they're often based around maize, from which we get finger-food favorites such as tacos and tortillas. Incredibly, the earliest tortilla is dated around 10,000BC, as corn tortillas were popular among the Aztecs. Nowadays, they tend to feature in family dinner recipes for sopes, quesadillas, tostadas and more!
It might surprise you that tortillas, although once seen as a distinctly Hispanic food, are now the second most popular bread product in the United States. They've surpassed the traditional American muffin in terms of popularity - that's testament to the success of Hispanic food distributors across the nation! Pair them up with Latin American condiments such as salsa and guacamole to round-off Hispanic Heritage Month recipes in style!
